7/21/25: When Life is the Heavier Side of the Scale
Most weeks, I talk about business—or how to manage business and life at the same time. But I don’t often deep dive into the other side of balance: life itself. This week, it’s time to lay that part on the table—because let’s be honest, life can feel just as daunting as running a business.
Let me start here: being a wife and mom are my favorite roles. This is the thing and the three people I wouldn’t trade for anything. But nothing stirs up big emotions quite like spending time with the ones you love most.
Here are just a few emotions that show up for me on the “life” side of the balance:
💥 Overwhelm.
Ever feel like everyone wants something from you? The wild part is—it’s often not them placing the demands. It’s you. I’m usually the one piling expectations on myself, not my husband or daughters. Sometimes, I let myself have a full-blown cry and ride the wave. Other times, I pause, take deep breaths, and remind myself: This too shall pass.
The truth? You’re not alone. Feeling overwhelmed isn’t a flaw—it’s human. Talk it out. Find your safe person. You don’t have to carry it all solo.
💭 Guilt.
Yep, mom guilt. That sinking feeling that you’re not giving enough—enough time, attention, love, money, energy, or insert-your-thing-here. Some days, we need to remind ourselves: we’re doing the best we can with what we have.
Our kids? They won’t remember the stuff. They’ll remember the snuggles, experiences, and time spent together.
🌧️ Sadness.
This one’s tender. Being a wife and mom is amazing—and sometimes, I feel deeply sad. It might be a memory of someone who’s no longer here. It might be words that were never spoken. And sometimes, sadness just shows up uninvited and unexplained.
If it’s short-lived and shallow, let it pass. It’s a valid emotion, just like it is for our kids. But if it lingers or runs too deep, please talk to a mental health professional. You don’t have to sit in the dark alone.
And then—there’s joy.
🌞 Gratitude. Pride. Peace.
I feel indescribable happiness when I pause and reflect on how blessed I am. I feel overwhelming pride when I look at my husband and children. I feel gratitude for the people and moments God has given me.
Here’s the truth: The good and the hard coexist. That’s what balance really means.
So, mama—grace. Give it to yourself. Surround yourself with people who hold space for your full humanity. You are doing the very best you can.
Take time to reflect. Name the feelings—good and bad. Say them out loud or write them down. The feelings aren’t the problem. Avoiding them is.
You’ve got this.
