6/2/25: The Truth About Balance: What It Really Looks Like for Women Entrepreneurs
I talk a lot about balance—and I genuinely believe women can build a booming business without burning down their home life. But let’s be clear: balance doesn’t mean a 50/50 split. It means designing your life with intention. And that starts by making your business fit into your life—not forcing your life to wrap around your business.
I know your time demands will vary based on how you work: whether you’re at home, running a storefront, flying solo, managing a team, building from scratch, or leading something well-established. So let’s talk general principles that still allow for flexibility.
First: know your priorities.
If your top priority right now is business growth, that’s fine. Set a schedule that reflects that—and build your family commitments around it. That might look like working 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and making sure you’ve got support at home during those hours.
But the opposite approach is just as valid. You might set your family schedule first and fit your business around it. For example, every Sunday night I review our upcoming week: appointments, practices, school activities, meetings that are non-negotiable—and I plan my work hours accordingly.
Either way—boundaries matter.
Work time is work time. Family time is family time. Don’t let the two bleed together unless it’s absolutely necessary. And when life happens (because it will), communicate. If you need to take care of something during business hours, let your team know what’s going on. Be clear. Be kind. If you need to work during family time, tell your people why—and ask for grace.
