3/31/25: Why Your Website is Your Most Important Tool

You may wonder why your website is your most important tool, especially if you are in direct sales and your company provides you a website.  There are several key reasons to build, maintain, and capitalize on a personal website, but I’ll cover just a few.  Let’s start with the most important one.

Your customer, client, or consumer buys from you, not your company.  You may not even realize it, but over time you are building a “know, like, trust” factor with the people consuming your product or service.  A personal website gives customers or potential customers a glimpse at the person they will be working with and what makes them uniquely qualified to be their go-to person for whatever their need is.  If you peek at my website, you will see what makes me tick, not just in business, but in life.  You’ll also see what lead me to coaching, what skills I can lend to people, and see some real moments caught on camera in my pictures.  People see a very authentic version of what they get when they peek at my website.

A personal website can be a store front when you don’t have 4-walls and a ceiling.  With a physical space you are limited in what you can showcase, but on the web, what you can display is limitless.  You can offer products or services without all the additional costs of an office or store.  Most websites will offer a point of sale option or have the ability to link in payment options.

I know that when I hear about a business or want to know more about a service, the first thing I do is scope out the website.  If that website looks outdated or poorly put together, I’m almost always out for whatever I thought I wanted.  Having a professional looking personal website can draw people in.  Presentation is important!  With more people checking things out on the go, you’ll want to be sure your website will look good on mobile devices.

Lastly, your website will give you an outlet to blog, share videos and images, or create forms and collect information.  Your personal website can be a great tool in collecting customer data and preferences, and in turn you can capitalize and market to those customers.  Blogging or sharing images can connect you with consumers in an honest and authentic way.

So, where do you start when you want to build your own website?  There are a lot of companies and services out there that let you build your website, but my personal fave is Oh My Hi!  That is who I have used for both my website builds.  Just to tell you how easy they make it, I build a PaperPie website and less than eight weeks later, I converted it to a Business Coaching website.  Each build took me under 5 hours (with tweaks made later). The web pages, email marketing, and forms have templates for easy use.  The support team is out of this world and very accessible.  There are three different plan levels so you get to pick what best serves you, from “I can build and manage all by myself” to “I want someone else to do all of it, please.”.  If you want to build your own website, put Oh My Hi at the top of your list of options.  Below there is a link to check it out.
